Reassessment Roulette: Appeal Assistance for Pittsburgh Homeowners (02/07/12 update)

This morning the Pittsburgh City Council approved a program to help homeowners needing assistance to appeal their new assessment.

Here's a short list to determine qualification:
  • 2011 assessment is $150,000 or less and own a home in the City of Pittsburgh
AND/OR...
  • 65 years of age or older and own a home in the City of Pittsburgh (value of home does not matter, i.e. can be in excess of the $150,000 threshold)
Thus, Pittsburgh homeowners under the age of 65 with a 2011 assessment of less than $150,000 will qualify for appeal assistance.  All Pittsburgh homeowners that are age 65+ will qualify for appeal assistance, regardless of their assessment value.

Assistance details for qualifying homeowners will focus on:
  • City negotiated special rates with local appraisers
  • City paying for one-half of appraisal cost for qualifying homeowners
  • Personal counseling for city homeowners participating in the program
  • Assistance in appeal preparation and representation
RAMP Government Affairs will provide more details and links to methods of obtaining this assistance as it becomes available.  Have you visited our RAMP's Reassessment Resources landing page?  It helps you sort through Fiction vs. Fact, and has a Reassessment Toolbox to help you navigate the road ahead.  Click here and then bookmark it!
